Alex Allan's sculptures begin where most things end. Working here with flakes of paint stripped from walls, furniture, and urban surfaces, he stacks them on their sides to build up dense, layered works that read as both painting and topography. The palette of each piece is determined entirely by whoever occupied a space before him. A kind of accidental colour theory. Allan's practice sits at the intersection of material recovery and monumental tradition, making something structural out of what was, essentially, residue.
